JX Speccy Emulator Review - ZX Planet

JX Speccy is another Spectrum emulator designed exclusively for the internet and yet again it works brilliantly. You can choose from over 5000 games to play online and the controls are simple to use and always available just below the game itself.

The JX Speccy web site also tells you a little something about the game you are playing, mainly the goal of the game as you would normally find on the inlay card of the original cassette - not all Spectrum games are easy to follow and about 90% of the time casual gamers get more than a little confused.

All in all the emulator and web site are superb, Marzio has done a great job on this project.

Installation	None Required.
Ease Of Use	Simply click the link to the game archive, the first letter of the game you are looking for then click that game when you find it. Another window will pop-up and emulation will being. Note, some titles do not show the user the controls and you will need to re-define them from the game options if you are unsure.
Compatibility	Not realy relevant to an online emulator as you can't play any other games than those that are available to you. With over 5,000 titles working though you can't complain at this one.
Graphics	The graphics are fine in this emulator, very close to the real thing. The only flaw I noticed is that the pop-up windows that run your selected game stretch the image slightly so that the graphics look a litle worse than the real thing. Nothing major though.
Sound	We didn't notice any sound when we were playing it but that doesn't mean that it isn't emulated. Try it and see.
Speed	It was a little fast on our machines but there are ways of making the emulator run at a good 3.3Mhz described on the home page.
Registration	The beauty of emulation is that most authors create these superb programs in their free time and therefore expect nothing in return. JX Speccy does not have a registration fee and is 100% free.
